Photography in April

Hello, reader!

To introduce myself, I am a 17 year old living in Kaunas, Lithuania. I've recently moved from London to this brand new city and it fascinates me everyday.

I'd like to welcome you to my blog in which I'll be sharing my creativity strand in CAS. I am enrolled in the International Baccalaureate and I thought that creating a blog about my experiences would be useful not only for myself but for the rest of the DP around the world. As well as this, I'd just like to share what certain things mean to me.

For the month of April, I've been taking various pictures whilst going out jogging. These pictures are in many different areas, they mean different things to me and are connected with different memories and people. I'd like to share some of the moments I've captured below and the meanings attached to them.

PHOTOGRAPHY

1. Dangerously pretty. I sat down for a rest on a bench whilst on one of my casual jogs and I managed to sit in a horrible place, the sun blinded me through the trees. It hurt to look at it but I figured I'd capture the beautiful sight so I can at least look at it on a picture and enjoy it without harming myself.

2. Crows are stalkers, they've been following me around. This time, however, I felt very uneasy being near this crow. I could see it looking directly at me, piercing through me almost. I took a picture in order to show my friend that there's a crow staring right at me. I thought, I'd share this with you. What could it mean?

3. Pointless dice. These dice belong to my friend, they look not as extravagant in the shadows as they do in the sun. My friend couldn't quite give them a purpose, she gave some away to her friends and she has these and simply carries them around. I thought that I'd give them a purpose. They finally look beautiful engulfed in the sun's rays.

4. Arkliu g. This means "Horse Road". My favourite animals are horses and I think it's pretty cool that they have their own road in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. I took this picture to remember that a road like this exists, captured the moment. The buildings look pretty worn, like they've been through a lot.

5. Hot hands. The downside to this picture is that my hand is blurry but his aren't. The red underneath his hands, the reflection of the fire, looks really beautiful. It reminds me of the long walk we took, I discovered a new part of the city of Kaunas that evening which fascinated me.

6. The sky and the sea. Well, it isn't the sea, it is the river Nemunas. This was taken on a long, high bridge, that I ran uphill and downhill on my jog. The sky was like this the entire day, yet not one drop of rain fell on my head. The greenery truly reflects that spring is finally in action.

7. Foggy. It is a shame that my camera couldn't pick up the heavy fog as much as I thought it did when I took the picture. I was cycling through the woods and it started to get suddenly dark and foggy. I was alone and felt like some car was following me due to the light coming from the moon. I was scared of the dark for the first time in many years, usually I love the dark. I took this picture and carried on cycling at my top speed.

8. Cotton clouds. The sky here looks like cotton candy, I want to eat it. I bet it tastes sweet. I'm kidding, of course. It reminds me of summer, even though this was taken in the spring. I am a sucker for beautiful skies and scenery that includes trees that aren't naked anymore, trees in the spring.

9. Hangout spot, maybe not. I took this picture to show my friends, maybe this could be a hangout spot or just some building that we could investigate since it looks abandoned. I'm pretty sure it is since some of the windows are cracked and when looking through the windows it looks... horrible. However, I noticed that there is a police station right next to this building, maybe it isn't such a good idea to go investigate after all.

10. Don't step on the cracks. Don't mess up the pretty dainty leaves that act as sparkles in between the dull tiles.

11. Never ending maze. This looks like something out of a fairytale, like a fantasy. The trees are in harmony, there are pretty flowers in the front and no people. It is peaceful and the sun shows off the trees so well.

These are the most memorable photos of the month, I hope you enjoyed them and that you understand what they mean to me. Lithuania is beautiful yet it has brought me some new challenges which makes the beauty less admirable.

Urte Zeimantaite.
